Premier Wen Jiabao Meets with King Albert II of Belgium(2005-06-07)

On June 7, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met with King Albert II of Belgium in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai.

Wen said that in recent years both China and Belgium attach great importance to each other's role in the regional and international affairs and have made great efforts to promote the development of bilateral ties. The Joint Communiqué on Strengthening Political Dialogue signed by China and Belgium in May last year lays down a solid political foundation for the further progress of bilateral ties. China expects to work with Belgium to constantly expand and deepen the friendly cooperation between the two countries and China and EU in various fields.

When talking about bilateral ties, Wen pointed out that China and Belgium are important economic and trade partner to each other and the bilateral cooperation in such fields of economy and trade, financial services, science and technology and poverty alleviation has achieved fruitful results. He expressed hope that China and Belgium strengthen cooperation in the fields of information technology, micro electronics, biopharmaceuticals and environmental protection and push for the higher-level development of bilateral economic and trade ties.

King Albert II said that Belgium attaches great importance to developing the relations with China. Belgium hopes to continue maintaining the high-level exchanges and dialogue with China and push forward the all-round development of bilateral cooperation in all fields.
