On August 28, 2026, the 8th China-Belgium Science and Technology Exchange Symposium was held in Brussels. Chinese Ambassador to Belgium Fei Shengchao attended the event and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Ambassador Fei Shengchao noted that this year marks both the start of China's 15th Five-Year Plan and the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium. China's experience in scientific and technological development demonstrates that openness and cooperation are the right path forward for advancing scientific and technological progress and addressing common challenges. He emphasized that, standing at a new historical starting point, China will focus on high-level opening-up and mutually beneficial cooperation, further opening up opportunities for scientific and technological cooperation. He said that hopefully China and Belgium will let science dispel misconceptions and build bridges of trust, harnessing the power of science for the greater good, and encouraging young researchers from both countries to jointly write a more brilliant chapter in China-Belgium scientific and technological cooperation in the next 55 years.

The symposium, themed “Reflections and Prospects: 55 Years of Partnership, Shaping the Future Through Science and Innovation”, attracted nearly 200 representatives from government, industry, academia and research institutions in China and Belgium.
