Q: Recently, some Belgian media have falsely accused China of “using fake Linkedin profiles to obtain information in Belgium”. What is your comment on this? A: The relevant reports are completely groundless and have wrongly put the blame on an innocent head. Place the blame where it belongs. This hat does not fit China at all, nor does China ever want it. In developing friendly relations with other countries, China always adheres to the principle of mutual respect and non-interference in others’ internal affairs, and firmly opposes any groundless dissemination of misinformation or disinformation that may mislead or manipulate public opinion. Much earlier, some media falsely alleged that an Belgian politician had been bribed by China to engage in espionage. Recently, Belgian prosecutors announced the termination of the relevant investigation due to lack of evidence. In September last year, UK prosecutors also dropped charges against alleged “China spies”, citing insufficient evidence. Truth and justice shall prevail. The Chinese side urges the relevant parties to respect the most basic legal and moral principles, respect the facts and the truths, stop political manipulation and unwarranted smear campaigns against China, and do more things contributing to stronger mutual understanding, mutual trust and cooperation between and to the benefit of our two countries. |
