On 18th October 2019, an event presenting the Chinese province of Sichuan was held at Pairi Daiza in Brugelette of the Hainaut province, co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in Belgium, the Chinese Mission to the EU and the Standing Committee of the Sichuan People’s Congress. Chinese Ambassador to Belgium Cao Zhongming, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan People’s Congress Ye Zhuang, Charge d’affaires of the Chinese Mission to the EU Wang Hongjian, Governor of Hainaut Tommy Leclercq, Mayor of Brugelette André Desmarlière, President of the Belgium-China Association Hans Van Duysen and President of Pairi Daiza Eric Domb attended the opening ceremony. There were also overseas Chinese and local Belgians, all together over 60 people present at the opening ceremony.

Before the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Cao Zhongming and Vice Chairman Ye Zhuang joined other guests for the photo exhibition on Sichuan Province, watched art performances and interacted with inheritors of intangible cultural heritage.

Various activities were held as part of the event from 17th to 19th October at Pairi Daiza, including exhibitions of photos and intangible cultural heritage, display of brochures introducing Sichuan, presentation of specialty produce, food tasting and art performances.
