Wang Yi Meets with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud

On July 8, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Bali Island.

Wang Yi said that China and Saudi Arabia have, as always, firmly supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, demonstrating the important value of the China-Saudi Arabia strategic partnership. The Chinese side cherishes the strong mutual trust established by President Xi Jinping as well as King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, always regards bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and stands ready to jointly promote the China-Saudi Arabia comprehensive strategic partnership to achieve new progress. China will continue to firmly support Saudi Arabia in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and stability, and oppose any acts that interfere in Saudi Arabia's internal affairs and support Saudi Arabia in playing its important and unique role in international and regional affairs.

Faisal said, the two heads of state have maintained close strategic communication, providing critical guidance for bilateral relations. He thanked China for its firm and strong support to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia firmly pursues the one-China principle and has always stood against any foreign interference in China's internal affairs. Saudi Arabia is ready to deepen the all-round cooperation with China. Saudi Arabia and China enjoy a high degree of consensus on major international and regional affairs and both sides stand for upholding the authority of the United Nations and basic norms governing international relations. Saudi Arabia is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China to jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries and defend international fairness and justice.

The two sides agreed to make joint preparations for high-level exchanges between the two countries, to inject strong impetus into bilateral relations.

The two sides agreed to upgrade the relationship between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to a higher level, and speed up the negotiation on the China-GCC free trade agreement.

The two sides agreed to continue to enhance communication and coordination within multilateral platforms including the United Nations, the G20 and the BRICS mechanism.

The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between China and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and draw more international attention to the Palestinian question.

The two sides also exchanged views on the regional security situation. Wang Yi said, China attaches importance to the legitimate concerns of Saudi Arabia, supports peaceful and friendly contacts among neighboring countries and works together to safeguard security and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
