2022-03-26 22:13

On March 26, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Nepali Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka in Kathmandu.

Wang Yi stressed, no matter how the international landscape and the domestic situations in the two countries evolve, China will unswervingly pursue friendly policies towards Nepal, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and advance the building of a China-Nepal community with a shared future along the course charted by the leaders of the two countries.

Wang Yi expounded on China's "Three Supports" for Nepal.

First, China supports Nepal in blazing a development path suited to its national conditions. China's friendly policies are oriented to all parties and factions in Nepal, as well as all the Nepali people. China supports all parties and factions in bearing in mind the fundamental and long-term interests of the Nepali people, conducting inclusive consultation, and making concerted efforts to jointly explore a governance model that is conducive to maintaining political stability, promoting economic growth, and improving people's wellbeing. On the premise of respecting the will of the Nepali side, China is ready to strengthen experience-sharing on state governance.

Second, China supports Nepal in pursuing independent domestic and foreign policies. China always holds that all countries, big or small, are equal, and always respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all countries. China believes that the affairs of Nepal should be decided by the Nepali people themselves. China opposes attempts to undermine Nepal's sovereignty and independence, interfere in Nepal's internal affairs, and play geopolitical games in Nepal. Nepal should become a shining example of cooperation between China and South Asia. China is glad to see Nepal develop amicable relations with all countries and play a bigger role in regional and international affairs.

Third, China supports Nepal in participating in Belt and Road cooperation to a greater extent. The past several years witnessed gratifying progress in Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries, which has significantly boosted Nepal's national construction. China is ready to advance the key cooperation projects between the two sides at a faster pace, ensure the smooth running of land ports between the two countries, explore cross-border cooperation in electricity, diversify and expand channels for economic, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and build the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network to make the Himalayas a bond of friendly cooperation between the two countries. China is ready to help Nepal leverage its strengths in human resources, geographical location and natural ecosystem, share the opportunities brought by China, and speed up its development and revitalization.
