Wang Yi: So Long as the Palestinian Question Remains Unresolved, China will Never Stop its Struggle to Support the Just Cause
2022-03-24 19:31

On March 23, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki in Islamabad on the sidelines of the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The two sides mainly had a deep communication on the Palestinian question.

Wang Yi said that the session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers made a clear and loud voice on the Palestinian question, which China fully agrees with. The Palestinian question should not be marginalized, still less forgotten. The historical injustice that has lasted for more than half a century should not continue. The international community cannot agree with the western countries' long neglect of the Palestinian question. China will continue to stand firmly with the Palestinian people. So long as the Palestinian question remains unresolved, China will never stop its struggle to support the just cause of the Palestinian people.

Wang Yi said, President Xi Jinping's four-point proposal for the settlement of the Palestinian question is the most authoritative explanation of China's position. Taking this as a guide, China has put forward three specific ideas. First, the authority of the Palestinian National Authority should be enhanced; second, the Palestinian factions should be supported for greater unity, whereby they can achieve genuine internal reconciliation; third, a larger, more authoritative and influential international peace conference should be held, with the participation of the permanent members of the UN Security Council and all stakeholders in the Middle East peace process to explore effective ways for a political settlement of the Palestinian question. China will continue to call for greater attention and input from the international community and play a constructive role in the final settlement of the Palestinian question. China is willing to continue to provide anti-pandemic and humanitarian assistance to Palestine and help refugees outside Palestine through the United Nations.

Riyad al-Maliki highly appreciated President Xi Jinping's four-point proposal on the Palestinian question. He said, President Xi Jinping is the first and the only major-power leader to call for equal attention to Palestinian security concerns. He thanked China for always upholding fairness and justice on the Palestinian question and providing support for Palestine to alleviate humanitarian difficulties. Palestine is deeply moved and encouraged by China's sincere friendship and spirit of solidarity. Palestine looks forward to China's continued support for the fundamental settlement of the Palestinian question and the realization of lasting peace in the Middle East. Palestine fully agrees to hold an upgraded version of the international peace conference and hopes that the conference can be held as soon as possible.
