On January 19, 2020 local time, Yang Jiechi, President Xi Jinping's special representative, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, attended the Libya Conference in Berlin in Germany.

Yang Jiechi pointed out, the Chinese side has always held that the Libyan issue can only be properly resolved through political means. We should focus on the fundamental interests of the Libyan people to immediately and completely cease fire, focus on the future of the Libyan nation to resume dialogue and reconciliation as soon as possible, focus on regional peace and stability to effectively and properly solve differences and focus on eliminating spillover effects to comprehensively address both the symptoms and causes with holistic measures. The Chinese side has always upheld an objective and fair stance on the Libyan issue, abided by the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations (UN), always respected Libya's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, and insisted on advancing the political settlement of the Libyan issue under the auspices of the UN. The Chinese side is willing to work with the international community to continue to make positive contributions to restoring peace, stability and development in Libya.
