|Wen Jiabao Meets with Iraqi President Talabani
On June 22, 2007, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai. Wen said the Chinese government attaches great importance to developing ties with Iraq and is ready to work with the country to push for friendly cooperation in all areas based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
Wen pointed out that the reconstruction in Iraq is now at a crucial stage, expressing hope that the Iraqi people can achieve national reconciliation, political stability and economic development at an early date through dialogue. He also hoped that the international community can offer support to Iraq in this regard. "China would like to write off Iraqi debts, offer Iraq assistance within its ability and help train Iraqi personnel needed for reconstruction to upgrade the country's educational and medical capacities," Wen said. Talabani said he was deeply touched by the friendly feelings the Chinese people have shown to the Iraqi people and impressed with the Chinese government's sincerity in developing ties with Iraq. Talabani said Iraq appreciated China's support to Iraq on economic reconstruction and would like to develop friendly cooperation with China in all areas.
