On June 20, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan met in the office building of the Foreign Ministry with Chairman of Reuters Group Niall FitzGerald, who is in Beijing for events marking five decades of cooperation between Xinhua and Reuters.

Kong appreciated Reuters for attaching importance to China and strengthening China-related reports, expressing hope that the UK news agency will take the opportunity of the Beijing Olympic Games to offer objective and comprehensive coverage about China. Kong expressed China's willingness to assist and facilitate Reuters in this regard.

FitzGerald introduced Reuters's proposals on cooperation with China, adding that the group will further strengthen China-related reports to deepen such cooperation.
