On April 19, Belgian cyclist Mr. Claude Brouir launched the “Bike2Shanghai” project at Parc du Cinquantenaire, a cultural landmark in Brussels. Chinese Ambassador to Belgium Fei Shengchao attended and addressed the event, and waved the flag to send off the ride. Over 20 Chinese and Belgian cyclists embarked on the first leg of the journey with Mr. Brouir. Mr. Brouir will travel more than 12000 kilometers over four months on a solar-assisted bicycle, planning to arrive in Shanghai by the end of August. The project promotes sustainable mobility while raising charitable funds for cancer research. Mr. Brouir expressed appreciation for the support and highlighted the importance of dialogue and engagement amid complex global challenges. The journey is expected to bring new encounters and discoveries, enriching the fabrics of China-EU and China-Belgium relations. Ambassador Fei remarked that, at a time of global uncertainty, this journey represents more than a physical crossing of borders. It also spans time and civilizations, serving as a bridge between peoples. The ride embodies the spirit of sustainability and vitality, and injects new momentum into China-EU and China-Belgium friendship. |
