On February 15, 2025, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Belgium H.E. Fei Shengchao attended the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Qian Xiuling at KU Leuven. Vice Rector of KU Leuven Peter Lievens, Dean of the Faculty of Science Philippe Mouchez and Vice Mayor of Yixing City Zhang Dazhi attended the event.

Ambassador Fei Shengchao said in his speech that during the World War II, Ms. Qian risked her life to save Belgian youths. Today, the unveiling of her statue at the Faculty of Science of KU Leuven holds special significance. It not only reflects the recognition and commemoration of Ms. Qian's heroic acts by both the Chinese and the Belgian sides, but also serves as a vivid testament to the long-term friendship and cooperation between the two countries. We believe that the sub-national exchanges and academic cooperation between China and Belgium would continue to advance, benefiting the two countries and the two peoples as well as contributing to world peace and development.

Vice Rector Lievens noted that KU Leuven remains committed to internationalization and welcomes Chinese students. The university looks forward to establishing and strengthening partnerships and student exchanges with institutions worldwide.
