On December 5, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Belgium Fei Shengchao visited Ghent University and met with Rector Rick Van de Walle and professors in the university.

Rector Van de Walle noted that Ghent  University is a research-oriented institution. With two science and  technology parks, it emphasizes the transformation of research outcomes  and fostering cooperation with enterprises. The university upholds  academic freedom, promotes international educational exchanges, and has  maintained friendly relations with Chinese universities over the years.  Its six platforms for regional cooperation worldwide are operating  steadily. The university would like to further deepen exchanges and  cooperation with Chinese universities in various fields, promoting  technological advancement and human progress.

Ambassador Fei commended the friendly exchanges between Ghent University and Chinese universities, emphasizing that that educational exchange and cooperation are essential to China-Belgium relations. China is willing to uphold openness and inclusiveness, foster mutual learning and promote new progress in China-Belgium educational exchange and cooperation.
