Stern Statement by the Spokesperson of the Embassy of China in Belgium on the Belgian Federal Senate's Adoption of the Xinjiang-related Resolution
2021-05-24 00:13

On May 21st, the Belgian Federal Senate passed a Xinjiang-related resolution, citing a large number of errors and false information and slandering the existence of “forced labor” in Xinjiang. We firmly oppose and strongly condemn this.

China has repeatedly emphasized that the nature of Xinjiang-related issues is counter-terrorism, de-radicalization, and anti-separatism, and it has a bearing on China’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security. The so-called “forced labor” and so on are all lies fabricated out of thin air by some anti-China forces. The Belgian Federal Senate ignores the fact that people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang live and work in peace and tranquility, spreads through the resolution false information created by people without any credibility and beneath basic ethical standards, groundlessly accuses China of violating human rights, and grossly interferes in China’s internal affairs.

China’s determination to defend national sovereignty, security and development interests is unwavering, and its determination to safeguard Xinjiang’s development, stability and ethnic unity is unwavering. Using Xinjiang-related issues to pressure China is futile and will only harm bilateral relations. We urge the Belgian Federal Senate to take a correct view of Xinjiang’s development and Xinjiang-related issues, earnestly respect China’s core interests and major concerns, immediately stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, and do more things that are conducive to the sound development of China-Belgium relations.
