Remarks by Spokesperson of the Embassy of China in Belgium on the Xinjiang-related Resolution Adopted by the Belgian Wallonia Parliament
2021-04-01 00:09

On March 31st, the Belgian Wallonia Parliament passed a Xinjiang-related resolution citing wrong and false information, and groundlessly accusing China's Xinjiang of "forced labor" and "re-education camps". The Chinese side resolutely opposes and condemns this.

China has reiterated that Xinjiang-related matters are purely China's internal affairs, and are not about ethnicity, religion, or human rights, but about counter-terrorism, de-radicalization, and anti-separatism. Allegations such as "forced labor" and "re-education camps" are false information concocted by anti-China think tanks funded by the United States and some politicians. Some people in Belgium repeatedly slander China with these ridiculous and malicious lies. This is a huge insult and offense to the Chinese people.

The door to China's Xinjiang is open. China has invited EU envoys to China to visit Xinjiang on many occasions. However, the EU and its member states' diplomatic personnel to China have delayed the visit using various excuses and even making unreasonable requests. We can't help but ask why they are afraid to go to Xinjiang? Why they dare not face the real Xinjiang where the society develops steadily and the people live and work in peace and contentment? China welcomes the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights visiting China including Xinjiang, but the visit is not a so-called "investigation" based on the presumption of guilt. Anyone who uses this matter for political maneuver will never succeed.

It is deeply regrettable that the Wallonia Parliament would rather believe in lies and false information about Xinjiang, while ignoring the truth and credible information introduced by China. This can only show that some people in Belgium have fallen into the quagmire of "political correctness", and they are bent on "political maneuver" rather than genuinely caring about the rights and well-being of the Xinjiang people including the Uyghurs.

It must be pointed out that the Wallonia Parliament's intention to pressure China based on lies and false information will not work. The Wallonia Parliament, based on lies and false information, tries to set up obstacles for its enterprises' cooperation with China, which would harm its own interests. China will resolutely and rightfully respond to the Wallonia Parliament's interference in China's internal affairs based on lies and false information.

We ask the relevant parliamentarians of Wallonia to immediately stop using Xinjiang-related matters to engage in political maneuver and interfere in China's internal affairs, and to stop doing anything that undermines China-Belgium cooperation.
