Source: BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- China and Belgium on Thursday vowed to further enhance their ties and comprehensive cooperation.

The pledge came out of meetings between Chinese leaders and visiting Belgian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Didier Reynders.

"The two countries should further promote substantial cooperation in the face of a complicated international situation," Vice Premier Li Keqiang said while meeting with Reynders Thursday afternoon.

Li said the two sides should actively expand cooperation in areas related to two-way investment, urbanization, environmental protection and finance.

He added that the two sides should give full play to the advantageous location of Belgium in order to deepen people-to-people exchanges, boost cultural cooperation and expand academic exchanges in order to enhance mutual understanding between Europe and China.

Reynders said Belgium attaches high importance to its relations with China and is ready to conduct comprehensive cooperation with China in all areas.

He also vowed to create better conditions for mutual investment by companies from the two countries.

Regarding China-Europe relations, Li said the two sides are important cooperative partners.

China believes that the EU is capable of building a consensus among its members, stabilizing its financial situation, promoting growth and employment and properly handling the debt crisis, he added.

Li also voiced China's steady support for the euro and EU integration, as well as the country's willingness to help solve the European debt crisis through various channels with the international community.

Reynders said Belgium will continue to play a positive role in the development of China-Europe relations.

On Thursday morning, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also held a talk with Reynders.

Yang said the Chinese side is ready to join hands with Belgium to enhance mutual trust, expand trade cooperation and cultural exchanges and push forward bilateral ties to a new high.

Reynders said the Belgian side will further increase investment to China, expand cooperation in multiple areas and promote closer cultural and educational exchanges.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
