Q&A by Spokesperson of Embassy of China in Belgium on Ban on TikTok by Belgian Government Agencies
2023-03-14 22:40

Q: Recently, the Belgian federal government announced that considering information security, TikTok was temporarily banned on all devices whose purchase, subscription or use are partly or fully paid for by the federal government, and called on regional, provincial and local governments to implement a similar ban. What is your comment on this?

A: We have noted the relevant statement. The Chinese government has always encouraged Chinese companies to abide by international rules and local laws and regulations, and carry out practical cooperation in the spirit of mutual benefits. The Belgian side has imposed restrictions and suppressed foreign companies under false pretexts. Such practice undermines global confidence in the Belgian business environment. It is hoped that the Belgian side will respect market rules and the principle of fair competition, stop overstretching and abusing the concept of national security, and provide an open, fair, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for all foreign companies.
