Q&A by Spokesperson of Embassy of China in Belgium on Local Media Report of So-called “Forced Organ Harvesting”
2022-08-21 15:45

Q: Recently, a certain Belgian media outlet, citing relevant anti-China sources, has claimed that there are so-called issues of “forced organ harvesting” and “organ trafficking” in China. What is your comment on this?

A: We have noticed that a French-language Belgian media outlet published an article that wantonly accused China of the so-called "forced organ harvesting" issue. This is seriously misleading and deceiving for the public. We hereby express our strong discontent and stern condemnation.

The so-called issues of “forced organ harvesting” and “organ trafficking” are purely fabricated out of thin air and have no factual basis. They are preposterous falsehoods spread by the Falun Gong cult and some anti-China forces to smear China, hoodwink the international community, and cover up the nature of the cult.

The selling of human organs and illegal transplant are strictly prohibited by China's laws. China's Regulations on Human Organ Transplant of 2007 has made it clear that the donation of human organs shall be made under the principle of free will and free of charge, no organization or individual shall buy or sell human organs in any form, and human organs used by medical institutions for transplant shall be obtained with the written consent of the donors. In 2014, the Chinese government declared voluntary donation from citizens as the only legal source of human organ transplant. China has established and promoted an organ donation system for citizens in accordance with law and issues the Organ Transplant Development Report every year. The good progress China has made in organ donation and transplant has been commended by WHO and other professional international institutions and widely recognized by the international community.

In recent years, the Falun Gong cult and some anti-China forces have distorted facts to make up lies. They have fabricated and repeatedly sensationalized the so-called “organ transplant” issue, whose ill intentions could not be more obvious. China firmly rejects this. We urge the relevant Belgian media outlet to learn about the facts and truth, take prompt measures to address the egregious impact of the article, stop publishing articles that aimed at smearing China, refrain from being a “loud hailer” of China-related rumors, and avoid becoming an aid of some cult and anti-China forces to spread disinformation and slander China.
