China and the Wider International Community Will Not Be Silent to the Troublemaker Who Egregiously Violates the Basic Norms in International Relations and Blatantly Violates China's Sovereignty

There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is part of China. The Taiwan question bears on China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the entire China. This is proclaimed by Resolution 2758 adopted at the UN General Assembly in 1971. The Office of Legal Affairs of the UN Secretariat stressed in its legal opinions that “the United Nations considers ‘Taiwan’ as a province of China with no separate status.” The one-China principle is an established international consensus and widely accepted basic norm in international relations. It is the political foundation for the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and countries in the world and a commitment made by the US in the three China-US joint communiqués. The principle, written down in black and white, is crystal clear. There is no room for ambiguity or arbitrary interpretation.

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, in total disregard of the firm opposition and repeated representations of the Chinese side and with the condonement and even arrangement of the US government, went ahead with the visit to China's Taiwan region. It has seriously undermined China's sovereignty, seriously interfered in China's internal affairs, seriously violated the commitments made by the US side, and seriously jeopardized peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. The US has acted in bad faith and brazenly violated China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. China is in every position to make resolute, strong response in order to uphold the international law and the basic norms governing international relations, particularly non-interference in countries' internal affairs, which is the most important international norm enshrined in the UN Charter. If the principle of non-interference is ignored and discarded, the world will return to the law of the jungle, and the US will become even more unscrupulous in treating and bullying other countries, especially small and medium-sized countries, from a position of strength. China could not allow that to happen. All countries need to come together to reject bullying acts that violate other countries' sovereignty and territorial integrity and to ensure that humanity will not regress. In fact, countries truly committed to the international law and basic norms in international relations are not silent. So far, more than 170 countries have voiced staunch support for China's position on the Taiwan question through various means. They overwhelmingly outnumber the US and its few supporters.

A person without credibility has no place in society; and a country that loses its credibility would falter. The one-China principle has the overwhelming support of the international community and represents the trend of the world. The US has been acting wantonly and arbitrarily on the Taiwan question, neither the Chinese people, nor people else where in the world will say yes to this.
