Remarks by Spokesperson of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Belgian Government's Declaration on Malicious Cyber Activities
2022-07-20 16:35

On 18 July, the Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs issued a declaration on behalf of the Belgian Government, accusing Chinese actors of undertaking "malicious cyber activities" targeting the FPS Interior and the Belgian Defence. Wang Wenbin, Spokesperson of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded at a regular press conference on 20 July:

Question: Belgium's foreign ministry said this week that Chinese hacker groups are responsible for cyber attacks against the Belgian government. Do you have any knowledge of these attacks or any response to this allegation?

Wang Wenbin: We have noted the declaration by the Belgian side. China opposes and fights all forms of hacking in accordance with the law. We do not encourage, support or connive at cyber attacks. We reject the Belgian side's irresponsible assertion that "Chinese hacker groups" carried out the "malicious cyber activities" when it had neither put forward any request related to the issue nor presented any factual evidence.

Ensuring cybersecurity is a common challenge for countries. We hope parties will demonstrate greater strategic independence and join efforts to safeguard cybersecurity through dialogue and cooperation.
