Q:Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun has recently visited four countries in West Asia and North Africa. Please brief us on the vists.

A: Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun paid working visits to Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia from March 6 to 12. The main purpose of the visits is to learn about the current situation in the Middle East and exchange views with relevant countries on developing bilateral ties. Vice Foreign Minister Zhai had meetings and talks with state leaders and leading officials of the Foreign Ministries of the countries respectively. He also met with Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa in Egypt,

During the visits, Zhai stressed to all relevant sides that the stability in the Middle East is conducive to world peace and development. China respects the development paths of the countries in the Middle East suitable for their own domestic situations and independently chosen by their people. The affairs in the Middle East countries should be addressed by those countries themselves without external interference. China will continue to play a constructive role along with the international community in maintaining stability and development in the Middle East region. Vice Foreign Minister Zhai also provided free assistance to Tunisia and Egypt on behalf of the Chinese Government.

The above four nations welcomed Vice Foreign Minister Zhai's visits and appreciated China's stance on relevant issues.
