Spokesperson's Remarks on Text of US Act involving Taiwan
2005-05-27 00:00

Q: The US House of Representatives recently passed the Defense Authorization Act for the Fiscal Year 2006, which contains provisions for high-level military educational exchanges between the United States and Taiwan. What's your comment on this?

A: The text of the Defense Authorization Act for the Fiscal Year 2006 adopted by US House of Representatives contains provisions including China, which severely violates the Three Sino-US Joint Communiqués and the one-China policy the US government has reiterated many times. We firmly oppose them and have made solemn representations to the US side. We urge the US Government to recognize the severe harm of relevant provisions, definitely oppose them and take effective measures to prevent them from becoming law so as to avoid damage to the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and seriously negative impact on the Sino-US relations and cooperation.
